Image of the Day: April 1st, 2015

MOUNT BONNELL revjdevans

I found this shot of Mount Bonnell by Flickr user revjdevans while poking around looking for other stuff. Mount Bonnell – like the 360 bridge and the Capitol building – are really well documented already, so finding an image that feels so different from the usual shots is great. Love the atmosphere (according to the Texas State Historical Association’s entry on Mount Bonnell, “The landmark has been the subject of many legends over the decades, and local lore also named the summit “Antonette’s Leap” in memory of a woman who jumped to her death to escape Indians who had just killed her fiancé.”

Spooky.

We’d love to see your photos of Austin’s landmarks. You can post them on our Facebook page, or email them to us directly if you’d like to be considered for an Image of the Day blog post.
